But like most parts of the country our Highways service faces increasing challenges from climate change and demands on our resources. But we are committed, both politically and operationally to serving our residents to the very best of our abilities and maintenance of our highway is a key priority for them.

As the Head of Highways, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the service leading a small client team focussed on asset management, contract management, performance, and stakeholder and customer engagement. You will ensure the successful execution of high-profile projects and delivery of maintenance programs as well as working with our elected Members and our Town and Parish Councils to shape the service to our residents’ needs.

As an innovative and creative leader, you will shape the future direction of the Highways Service. You will be part of the departmental senior management team within the Communities, Economy, and Transport Department. You will lead the development of strategies and plans to enhance sustainability and performance across the highways service. Your highways and commercial experience, coupled with forward-thinking ideas will contribute to innovative and effective approaches to service delivery for now and the future. You will combine this with a proven track record in successfully managing contracts under the NEC4 suite of contracts. You will be a first class communicator, able to represent the Council in public meetings and amongst elected Members and you will have a good appreciation of working in a political environment.
